Fated Dark Protectors Rebecca Zanetti Books

Because it was bad. Really bad. There were just too many things wrong with the story, the dialogue, the characters. Hell, the only good thing this book has going for it, is that it's not filled with grammatical errors. You have a heroine who sees all these bad people, gets kidnapped yet rescued someone who keeps telling her he is there to keep her safe. She's an empath, she KNOWS he's not lying, yet she keeps plotting to run away from him. Yup, she gets taken in a building full of people, yet still thinks she can protect herself. Smart. Then you get a hero who is a major control freak in so many wrong ways, and seems to end all the sentences he speaks to her with "mate", and not in that Australian way. She is your stereotypical woman who makes idiotic and bad decisions without really thinking. He is a chauvinistic he-man. So not worth the money.

I would rather read Suzanne Wright's vampire series over and over again, now THAT is how you write a strong female lead.

Fated Dark Protectors Rebecca Zanetti Books Reviews

I don’t know what I was thinking allowing this book to sit toward the bottom of my TBR pile and gather dust. If it had not been for the Low Angst Love TBR Challenge it would just continue to be crushed under the weight of the other books I keep adding. However, now that I pulled it out and actually read it, I am so glad I did. It has a fast pace, quick action, lots of hot alpha-ness all around, a strong heroine, fun scenes with a young child interacting with tough alpha vampires, and all kinds of swoony sexy times. It’s also got some gory places with decapitations because nothing says “You’re dead” more to a vampire than the removal of the enemies head. Haha! I loved it! And the best thing, it’s a series. I don’t do series. But baby, I am doing this one!
So starting the Dark Protectors series by Rebecca Zanetti was a little intimidating. I actually started with the Realm Enforcers series after getting hooked on Zanetti from the Scorpius Syndrome series. I knew I would love this series, but with 8 books, that's a LOT of commitment. I mean, I knew I would it would be worth it, but I knew once I got started, I wouldn't want to stop.

And sure enough, WHY did I want SOOOO long!?!?!?!? OMG, I want a Talen Kayrs of my own!!! Zanetti created a complex world that I was kinda familiar with from Realm Enforcers, but make so much more sense. Talen is the perfect kind of Alpha. Hard exterior with a gooey, soft center. After a single touch, he knows Cara is his fated mate. And what's not to love about Janie?

Fated introduces you a whole new world of Vampires and shifters. Zanetti has created a world of strong female characters and sexy Alphas. But more than that, it's clear from the first chapter, the Dark Protectors is all about the bonds of family. It's evident in Cara and Janie's interactions. Cara's single-minded focus on her daughter. You see it in the Kayrs brothers, pledging their life for a tiny girl's because Talen has claimed her as his own. Katie and Cara's relationship is another example, only this highlights the family you make.

AND now I'm hooked. I can't wait to see what else Zanetti has in store in the rest of the Dark Protectors series.
Fated--another new twist in the Vampire world. I would define it as alpha male (extreme), heavy on the sex (big plus), and entertaining, minus a few irritants.

I'd have to agree with the Publishers Weekly comment "Zanetti bolsters this rather absurd setup with steamy scenes." That being said, the book was a definite 3 1/2 stars but not a five. Now I didn't struggle with the premise of a fated sexual attraction between the two, that I believe was well played. The big stick in the craw that haunted me for the first half of the book was how Cara caved to the attraction so quickly, and I only struggled with it because she has a daughter to consider. One example who--paranormal romance or not--is going to make out with their kidnapper minutes into the kidnapping and with her daughter within plain view. Yeah sure, Talen assures Cara that her daughter can't see and that he's there to help, but it was still a WTH moment. And why was it necessary that she remain separated from her daughter for five weeks? If Talen's off raiding, why couldn't Dage just fly up and retrieve Cara so she could join Janie? And yes, I know those who disagree with my review will say because then we lose the bonding time between Talen and Cara. However, we really didn't get a lot of touching, two-strangers-getting-to-know-one-another moments. Their relationship or "mating" is forced from the gate, and it feels that way.

On the plus side, Zanetti has created some intriguing characters and history. The Kayrs family sucked me right in--lots of big, bad vamps to develop there (Yum! Liking Con and Dage). I thoroughly enjoyed how the brothers had taken to their new niece. Those scenes were endearing--more so then some of the scenes between Cara and Talen. In all honesty, I was more interested in the secondary characters then Cara and Talen. Ultimately, I think Zanetti has HUGE potential with this intriguing paranormal world she's created, I just struggled with this particular plot.
