Vanished
By: Kendra Elliott

When 11-year-old Henley is kidnapped on her way to school, it takes the combined efforts of Police Detective Mason Callahan and FBI special agent Ava McLane to find her and each other.

I am not usually a “detective” story kind of girl. I prefer historical fiction, science fiction and the occasional fantasy. However, when I came across this book by Kendra Elliott it intrigued me. I am incredibly glad that I gave it a chance.

I did not realize until I was ready to write this review that VANISHED is the 5th book in a series. That’s a pretty good statement to the skills of the author. It’s a wonderful standalone book. However, now that I know it’s part of series I’ll have to read them all.

I appreciated the depth to which Ms. Elliott plumbed to develop ALL of her characters, not just Mason and Ava. From the secondary players such as Mason’s son to the almost unimportant bystanders each seemed as real as you and I.

The plotting was steady. I wish it had been a LITTLE bit faster-paced, however that’s a very minor complaint for me personally.
At its heart, VANISHED is a romance between Mason and Ava. Yet, the growing relationship between the two was kept to the background. The little girl, Henley, and her kidnapping was more important and the characters DO realize that. Had the romance between the two been the focus of the book, I think I as a reader would have been turned off. As it was, it was handled with class and I appreciated that.

I really enjoyed this book and would recommend it to anyone.

Vanished Callahan McLane Book 1 edition by Kendra Elliot Romance eBooks Reviews

I have been composing this review in my mind since I finished the book. I suppose I can sum it up best by saying that all the things I would have said put a smile on my face. Then I realized I could not possibly fit that much praise in the space provided. To summarize -- I never have found a plot like this one. Brilliant. The characters are exceptional. Having a law enforcement background, I am hard to please with the cop stuff. I was very pleased. While I do not like what are generally called romance novels, I enjoy boy-girl stuff, from the initial attraction that lights a fuse, to the hot bedroom scenes. With one proviso - it must be done in good taste and within the personality of the character the author has built. And though most authors seldom make that happen, Elliot does it well and sparingly. The interaction of characters is also well done. I read the book during a Christmas week trip, snatching ten or fifteen minutes to read when I could and finding it hard to put the book down. Perhaps most important, it was believable. I could go on, but I think I've made it obvious I liked it very much. I'm reading the second Elliot book, and have downloaded a third.
Vanished by Kendra Eliot delivers another exciting full of many twists and turns.

Special Agent Ava McLane is assigned a troubling case of a missing eleven year old girl. Ava is assigned to be the families go to person for anything related to the case. Added to this mix is Ava’s less the stellar twin sister who keeps popping up at the worst possible moment.

Local detective Mason Callahan is a close friend of the missing girls family. His ex wife is the little girls step mother and the mother of Mason’s only child. Agreeing to be the families spoke person has him working in close quarters with SA Ava.

There is another issue working in the background some one is trying to ruin Det. Callahan’s career. Could this newest trouble be somehow related to young Henley’s disappearance?

As the danger revives up so does the attraction between Ava and Mason. Will they be able to solve the kidnapping and the danger to Mason’s career before the killer plays his final hand?

Vanished is another pulse pounding story that will keep you on your toes and the edge of your seat. Ava and Mason’s relationship didn’t start out on the best of footing but you find yourself routing for these two to make it. This book is a keeper and I am eager to read the next book by Kendra Elliot.
Kendra Elliott has done it again. Another great page-turner to keep you up all night! I started out with her "Mercy" series and then her "Bone secrets" series and have just begun "Callahan and McLane". I'm completely addicted to her stories. She has a true gift. So give her a try. You won't be sorry. These books have love, mystery, action, excitement, drama, and people who actually seem real. I will add that the "Bone" books introduce OSP Detective Callahan if you want to read them before this series.
This so called suspense novel was about as exciting as watching water boil. Fraught with author intrusions, boring internal dialogue that had nothing to do with the plot, repetitive descriptions of how wonderful the FBI is and their procedures for handling kidnappings, mixed points of view that made this story read more like a poorly written romance novel than a bonifide mystery, all combine to make this book a cure for insomnia.
I wanted to love this book after the first couple of pages but only made it as far as liking it. The "bad guy" was a good bad guy so my feelings about him are conflicting. I'm of the school that if you're going to be bad then be bad all the way, or why bother. That's what this book had me asking myself. Why bother with the kidnapping and the twenty years of planning if you're not going to do anything? That's a lot of time wasted. There were so many things that could have been added to this book. It just left me wanting more.
Good story with some interesting twists. The story held my interest throughout, but would like to have known the main characters in more depth. Also, I though the ending was glossed over. Would have liked it to play out in more detail as well. Overall, a good read though. I would recommend.
I liked the suspense , with unexpected twists and turns that initially made everyone a suspect. The details of the sexual connections / sex between the two lead characters were unnecessary and could easily have been omitted.
