We went to Yellowstone for 10 days, with a long day drive to and from the park. Once I got my two girls, 9 & 11 to actually LOOK at this book, they spent hours doing and redoing the activities. I also brought a back-of-the-seat TV, (with restrictions!)but they only watched it once for an hour or so. This is a great self stimulating little book; I recieved much factual instruction/teaching from the kids on the drive(No! Really! Is that True? Really? etc. etc.) Make sure you have plenty of pencils and a sharpener...

I am blessed with bright and engaged learners as kids. I found myself repeatedly trying to get them engaged with this activity book. I purchased one for each in order to keep the peace, however, it did not catch on. We visited Yellowstone - Tetons in August 2009. I am planning to reopen the copies for review, however, not sure why the traction was not better. I surprised them on the plane to pass the time and get them charged up for the trip. If you commit to it, get your kids buy in prior to purchase.
I've visited Yellowstone for years. This is a great activity book to get kids ready to visit Yellowstone, Grand Teton, or Glacier. Even better would be to save it for a rainy day in the park or for evening activity before bed or to keep the trip alive after you return home. It has a large variety of activities suitable for elementary age kids, or a younger one with parent help.
Teachers could use the activities for students studying any of these three parks. Learning can be fun. -)
