Vampire Shift Book One Kiera Hudson Series One 1 eBook Tim O'Rourke
Vampire Shift is the first in the Kiera Hudson Series that is written by Tim O’Rourke.Kiera is a newly graduated police constable who is sent to a small village on the coast of England to replace a constable that has disappeared. This tiny coastal town has no cell reception, no radio reception, and the phones lines are always down. And, there’s been a lot of people killed or gone missing over the years. Kiera has special abilities that allow her to notice little things that most people would not see. This gives her an advantage in investigative work and comes in helpful in determining what is happening to the people of this village.
The action starts right away in this story with the death of a little boy. Bodies pile up quickly as Kiera stirs the pot. She’s a straightforward type of person who tells it like she sees it. The local police station is not impressive. The three constables there do not appear to be too concerned with the rules.
Kiera is the most rounded character. The others are somewhat two-dimensional. This book comes across as a young adult romance. It’s an easy read and OK story. Once I started the story, I was able to finish it. I would recommend this for those who like vampire novels. Young adults will most likely love this story.

Vampire Shift Book One Kiera Hudson Series One 1 eBook Tim O'Rourke Reviews
*Genre* Urban Fantasy
*Rating* 4.0
*Review*
Vampire Shift is the first novel in the Kiera Hudson Series. Kiera is a 20 year old constable who recently graduated from the Police Academy. Unwilling to seem like she was hard to deal with and inflexible when it comes to duty stations, Kiera agrees to take a job in the remote village of The Ragged Edge. Kiera has a gift of noticing things that others can't see which is basically saying that she's got a sixth sense in discovering things that may be important in solving a case. Who needs CSI when you have Kiera's abilities to work with? Kiera is also on a mission to find out what happened to her mother who seemingly vanished into thin air 3 years before.
Kiera is an interesting character in that she openly walks into a situation where she is over her head and ends up dealing with things that she couldn't have imagined before taking the duty station. There are mysteries surrounding the disappearances of other constables stationed at The Ragged Edge, as well as the fact that someone appears to be desecrating graves of the recently deceased. Kiera, however, truly believes that her "Gift" will allow her to solve the mysteries so that she can move onto the more important task of finding out what happened to her mother.
Kiera ends up with the late shift, affectionately called The Vampire Shift. Her coworkers Sergeant Murphy, Constable Potter, and Constable Luke Bishop all seem to be hiding something and later we learn a few more mysteries which Tim reveals piece meal and I will not spoil. It was not much of a shocker to learn who Kiera would end up having a romantic interlude with.
I'm so very glad that I found the time to dive into this series as I have been putting it off for months now. Thanks to Tim for sharing these books with me! Vampire Shift is such an interesting concept and the differences between vampires is profound. Readers will be kept in their seats as this is a fast read that goes by quicker than you can imagine. I can't wait to jump into Vampire Wake soon!
Vampire Shift is certainly not like any other vampire tale. Yeah its filled with snappying teeth, blood , guts but also a unique and progressive storyline to boot. Lots mystery, and intrigue - and moments where you will be gasping to get away from those snappy teeth and claws. lol..
Its jam packed with kick arse action, characters that Im sure you will love. Giggle with, and even wanna kick some serious arse, and for the romantics like me even some swoon worthly moments..
After reading One of Tims books the previous day I delved into Vampire shift and devoured this in one sitting. It had enough action, adventure, romance, and all the good things to make this a book not to be put down.
The storyline certainly piqued my attention, the characters filled with there own little quirks , and dialgue that flowed smoothly.
For all those who are after a Vampire story that is different, with twists and turns like a roller coaster ride then this story is for you. Lucky for me, I can delve into the next story as Tim has more goodies in store for this series.
Im not going into the storyline with this review,, but its not a normal police = detective story .. its so much more.. Creatures in the night that will have your hackles on end, and unique parts added to give this tale a spin of its own.
I enjoy Tim's writing style, he doesnt drabble on - the reader certainly doesnt loose interest and he keeps us on the edges of our seats many a times.
Ill be definelty reading more of this series .
This one was kinda odd. I don’t know if it was the writing or the plotline but it seemed to flow awkwardly. Like the romance was pushed a bit too much too soon. And it was too dry for my tastes. I found it unbelievable and so it took me out of the story a lot. Then it got almost ridiculous in nature so naturally I kept reading just to see how far it would go and I ended up liking it once I stop taking it so seriously. I wonder if that was the authors intend from the beginning…..
Anyway, Kiera has an uncanny sense to ‘see’ things. It’s akin to Sherlock Holmes in that it’s not supernatural just her own sharp powers of observation. And that in itself was enough to keep me reading because it was a slight change from the norm with this genre. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a paranormal book all the way but I liked that it threw in that aspect.
Mostly I found Kiera’s character to be flat and uninteresting. And the love interest, I can’t even remember his name so that tells you all you really need to know about him right?
I did like the story apart from the romance, that part could have been left out with no change in the plot. I will not be reading any more in this series because it was too slow and there’s like 10 books in it so yeah, I’m not signing up for that.
